An important part of a Grid-connected system placed on tilted roof is the support structure for the panels. The support structure ensures that the panels can be placed with the correct tilt angle and they provide a constructive safety. The combination of support structure and panels should be able to withstand wind loads for instance. There is a large variety of support structures available from small do-it-yourself structures to custom-made structures for large solar electricity systems. Support structures can be made of a metallic frame or a synthetic material. There are several types of support systems depending on the place where the solar system will be installed. Grid-connected systems are also used as part of the building envelop (building integration). For these applications special support structures are made and developed. Building integration has become an important aspect of grid-connected solar electricity systems. In order to realize cost reduction, integration can be a helpful tool. |
